When it comes to thread lockers, there are books, charts, graphs, mil specs, test reports, and enough data to make your head spin.  We keep it simple with a basic selection that seems to meet the needs of most of our customers.  Here is what we carry and the manufacturers descriptions of applications.

Permatex Medium Strength Blue

This is an all-purpose strength threadlocker. Ideal for all nut and bolt applications ranging from ¼” thru 1” diameter. It locks and seals while preventing parts from loosening due to vibration. It also protects threads from corrosion. Removable with hand tools for easy disassembly.

Other suggested applications: machine tools, presses, pumps, compressors, mounting bolts, and gear boxes.

Permatex Permanent Strength Red

This is a permanent, high strength product that is applied to fasteners 3/8” to 1” in size. It is designed for securing parts that must withstand heavy shock, vibration, or extreme chemical or environmental conditions. Localized heating and hand tools are required to separate parts.

Other suggested applications: Heavy equipment bolts, suspensions bolts, gear bolts, railroad assemblies, construction equipment, and transmission shaft bolts.

Permatex High Strength Red

High strength threadlocker for heavy-duty applications. Especially well suited for locking studs. Locks against vibration loosening. Requires extra effort or special tools for removal.

Other suggested applications: Frame bracket, hydraulic press studs, frame bolts

Permatex Pneumatic/Hydraulic Sealant

This sealant is designed to cure more reliably on oily surfaces. It will not contaminate fine filter systems.

Permatex Bearing Mount Adhesive

This is a low viscosity, rapid curing anaerobic adhesive that augments the strength of press fit or slip fit assemblies up to .005” in diameter. It prevents fretting and corrosion. Adds up to 3,000 psi holding power

Suggested applications: locks keys and splines – eliminates backlash in worn assemblies. Locks bushings and sleeves in housings and on shafts. Augments press fits.
